How Diamonds Get Their Colour?
Diamonds are present in a wide range of colours. Diamond comes in various colours such as pure white, soft pink, and blue is different. Each diamond is eccentric in its qualities. Diamonds are made up of a different chemical composition of the elements. They have the strength to dominate uniqueness, merit, and attractiveness.
White Diamonds can be put under the most commonly classified diamonds list in respect of the largest group of colour range in the Diamond Grading scale. This grading scales starts with “D” colour (which is colourless) and ends with the colour “Z” (which is pale yellow or brown). This list of the spectrum consists of a variable which is the Nitrogen element. Diamonds that are of a “D” colour does not have nitrogen (in some cases it can be found in a tiny amount). No other element is present in these diamonds. Amount of nitrogen positively affects the colour of the diamonds.
The higher the amount of nitrogen in the diamonds, the darker the colour of the diamonds, thus creating an unfixed diamond colour classification. A significant number of white diamonds that are extracted from the earth today consists of a great amount of Nitrogen in them, thus making them the lowest one in the colour scale. The diamonds that fall under the D-F range are rare. Therefore, they are costly and are more in demand as compared to those who are at the end of the colour list.
Yellow diamonds consist of degradation in their chemical composition. In yellow diamonds, the nitrogen is assimilated into the carbon crystal structure. The yellow colour of the diamonds is because of the nitrogen impurities. This is because of the modified light, which is absorbed by the blue light of spectrum that is visible. With a great amount of nitrogen present in the diamond, stones make the diamonds fall into the category of M-Z colour diamond, and in return, the colour of the diamond is what can say are fancy colours. When it comes to the fancy coloured diamonds, they follow the exact same grading scale colour, which includes: Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, and Fancy Vivid. With the Increase in the colour concentration of the stone, the value of the colour also increases.
After the modification of different diamonds, the colour changes into a grey secondary tone. These diamonds comprise of uneven saturation of colour. You can also find areas of colourless windowing. This turn the natural blue diamonds with an amazing saturation into a rare diamond.
Pink, Red and Other Coloured Diamonds
What is the reason behind a pink and red colour of a diamond? There is absolutely no answer to this question yet. However, it is a known fact that no impurity is the reason behind the colour of the diamonds. Though it is not a proven concept, yet it is stated that the mutability in the crystal causes the alteration of the stone.
Other colours like green, purple, orange are caused by the natural radiation within the Earth’ surface. Coloured diamonds are nature’s exception.
